“Climbing to the Pinnacle” Bronze Plaque
A climber approaches the peak of a rock pinnacle under the watchful eye of his belayer.

This piece is loosely based on a well-known climb at Pinnacles National Monument in California called "Photographer's Delight". Though I have climbed at Pinnacles several times I have never done this route. It is a very dramatic place, and I have sketched and painted there are few times. This is a beautiful park, and a departure from the lush wooded areas that California is famous for. It reminds me of parts of Arizona or Utah.

In this unique climber art piece, the climber nears the top of the route and chalks up while he eyes his last few moves. His trusty belayer keeps an eye on her partner. This tough route goes past a nice crack, then a small overhang, before finally nearing the top. Belayer has harness with belay device and slippers. Check out her long braid and casual climbing clothes. Climber has harness, gear rack with cams and chocks, chalk bag, climbing shoes, and tired arms.

This sculpture is available unframed or in a special framed limited edition version. The framed version contrasts the precise shapes of a bronze sculpture with the fluid shapes of an oil painting. The brown, beige, tan, and rust colors suggest the rocky area that surrounds the pinnacle, and brings to mind a larger scene. Each Limited Edition plaque comes with a signed and numbered certificate of authenticity.

Rock climbing art can be an original gift for a fellow climber or satisfy your own urge to hit the rock. Keep this distinctive climber art on your wall to remind yourself of past climbs or stay inspired for the ones to come. Check out both versions of "Climbing to the Pinnacle".
